Gareth Bale: What went wrong?

The Wales international time at Real Madrid has been hampered by series of long-term and short-term injuries. But Bale was always important in the series of trophies Real Madrid won over the years. He was a super-sub in Madrid’s 2018 UEFA Champions League final triumph over Liverpool, scoring twice after coming on. A trophy which was the last of Madrid’s three consecutive UEFA Champions League wins starting from 2016.
Bale formed a formidable partnership with C. Ronaldo and Benzema, the BBC. He also played his part in Madrid’s 2016–17 La Liga triumph but has always been in the shadow of Cristiano Ronaldo. Therefore, the Portuguese departure in 2018 to Juventus was seen as an opportunity for Bale to take over the reigns at Real Madrid but the reverse is now the case.
The former Southampton youth social life became a subject of concern among his teammates and his refusal to learn Spanish didn’t help his course. Bale teammates accused him of being far from other teammates and his falling-out with Madrid’s hierarchy started even before the reappointment of Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane who left with Ronaldo in the summer of 2018 returned towards the end of 2018/19 season after Madrid struggled to replace him. The French coach soon expressed his desire to part ways with Bale which culminated in his recent statement.
“We’ll have to see what happens in the coming days. We’ll have to see if it goes through tomorrow, if it does, then all the better.
Let’s hope, for everyone’s sake, that it happens soon.“
