Match week one: Salah open season’s account as English premier league kick off in style
After a long wait, match week one came with much delight. There were 23 goals across the 10 matches, with Man city showing they are the team to beat. Man United, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool also sign in with victories.
Man United 2 : 0 Leicester City
The opening game of the season featured last season first runner-up Man United and 2016 surprise package Leicester city. The game gave a glimpse of what the season holds, with United earning a narrow 2-1 win. Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw scored either halves of the game, while Jamie Vardy gave Leicester a late consolation.
Newcastle 1 : 2 Tottenham
At St. James’ Park Tottenham earned a hard fought 1-2 win over Newcastle United, with three goals coming in the opening 20 minutes. J. Vertonghen and Dele Alli scored for Tottenham, with Newcastle goal coming from Joselu.
Watford 2 : 0 Brighton
It was a Pereyra’s show as his two goals were all Watford needed for an opening week win. The goals were scored in the 35th and 54th minutes.
Fulham 0 : 2 Crystal Palace
Much was expected from Fulham after a busy summer but they disappointed, as Crystal Palace spoilt their premier league welcome party with a 0-2 win. Goals came from Jeffery Schlupp and Wilfred Zaha.
Bournemouth 2 : 0 Cardiff City
Bournemouth did not disappoint as goals from Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson gave them a 2-0 win over Cardiff. The game also featured the first penalty miss of the season, with Cardiff goalkeeper N. Etheridge saving Callum Wilson 33rd minute penalty.
Huddersfield 0 : 2 Chelsea
The blues were on song as goals from Ngolo Kante, Jorginho and Pedro gave them a resounding 0-3 win over Huddersfield. What more could Sarri ask for in his premier league bow?
Wolves 2 : 2 Everton
New signing Richarlison was on song as Wolves twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with 10-men Everton. Richarlison scored in the 17th and 67th minutes, while Wolves’ goals came from Ruben Neves and R. Jimenez. Jagielka got the first sending-off of the season.
Southampton 0 : 0 Burnley
There was no much to talk about as Southampton and Burnley played out a 0-0 draw at St. Mary’s Stadium. The first and only goalless game of match week one.
Liverpool 4 : 0 West Ham
Salah picked up from where he left last season, as he opened the scoring for Liverpool in their 4-0 thrashing of West Ham. Two goals from Mane and a goal from Daniel Sturridge’s first touch added to Salah’s goal to give Liverpool a blistering start.
Arsenal 0 : 2 Man City
Man city spoilt Unai Emery premier league debut with 0-2 win over Arsenal. The citizen followed up their community shield win over Chelsea with and an easy win over Arsenal. Arsenal disappointed leaving new coach Emery with much work to do before traveling to Chelsea. The goals were scored by Sterling and Bernardo Silva.
